Easy Penne with Meat Sauce
My inspiration for this Easy Penne with Meat Sauce recipe came from this week’s CSA selection — Brad’s Ground Beef! Penne with Meat Sauce is an easy weeknight dinner, that is both kid-friendly and quick to make!
Growing up, my parents — like most Greek immigrants — devoted a large portion of our backyard to a vegetable garden and a grapevine. We enjoyed plenty of fresh strawberries, blueberries, grapes, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and zucchini all season long.
Support your local farmers!!
Over the last few years, John and I have attempted a small garden of our own that yielded decent results (Maryland tomatoes are to die for!). But over the last couple of years, with crazy schedules and four kids to chase after, it seemed like the right time to support our local farmer with a CSA membership. We absolutely love it and highly recommend Brad’s Farm Market to anyone in the Baltimore County/Harford County/Cecil County area.
This past week, Brad’s Farm Market, located here in Bel Air, MD, opened their CSA (community sponsored agriculture) program weekly pickup for the 2018 season! My pickup yesterday included a pound of ground beef, spring onions, freshly picked strawberries, Bok choy and fresh spinach. As the season takes off, the selection and quantities vary and increase. You never know what you will get each week and my kids enjoy coming with me and picking out that week’s bounty.
While you’re at it, support your local butcher, too!
Since we were able to choose local beef — from another tried and true local butcher — Bowman’s Butcher Shop, and my husband’s impulse purchase of a jar of Spaghetti Sauce made by another local company, Country Canning, it seemed fitting to make Easy Penne with Meat Sauce this week.
My family loves to have some type of pasta dish at least once a week. Brad’s Spaghetti Sauce includes everything you need to make an easy weeknight sauce – onions, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, and seasonings. And when you don’t have time for slow simmering or chopping vegetables, like most Moms I know, this sauce comes in handy.
Guys, believe me when I tell you — this is no ordinary sauce! It’s out of this world delicious. Just brown the ground beef and stir in the sauce and you have a dish of Easy Penne with Meat Sauce ready for dinner with the family.
P.S. For those who are interested in a low carb meal, pair the Meat Sauce with a baked sweet potato, zoodles, or cauliflower rice.
